Sediment Cascades and Climate Change Workshop will be held in the small mountain town of Los Queñes, Central Chile.

Background

Last year, extreme weather events forced the Maule region of Chile into a State of Emergency. In Los Queñes, local residents evacuated their homes as torrents eroded away houses and sections of road. Many were left isolated and without access to basic services.

Researchers from Durham University, Universidad Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile visited the area in August to assess the damage and carryout fieldwork to better understand the cascade of events.
